FAQ

After braces are placed, your teeth may be sensitive to biting for about a week. Usually, it is not spontaneous pain, but discomfort that occurs while eating and biting food. After each activation visit of the device, periodic ailments may also appear, this is a normal reaction of the body. In order to alleviate the symptoms, it is recommended to eat soft, crushed food immediately after wearing the brace. Typically, the discomfort that occurs does not impede everyday functioning.

This is a MYTH. It is crucial to maintain very good oral hygiene, in accordance with the recommendations of the orthodontist and dental hygienist. If you maintain proper hygiene habits, your tooth enamel will remain healthy throughout your orthodontic treatment. Regular visits to the dentist every 6 months and hygiene visits every 3-6 months are recommended, during which the hygienist will additionally remove deposits and tartar and provide professional hygiene instruction. Otherwise, patients who do not take proper care of their oral hygiene are at risk of developing enamel decalcification, carious lesions and discoloration.

During orthodontic treatment with fixed braces, you should avoid hard foods such as nuts and candies, chewy and sticky foods such as fudge and jellies, and foods that you bite off into larger pieces, such as a whole apple or a corn cob. Most products can be eaten, but in crushed form. Careful eating in smaller bites should not cause problems with your braces. In the case of patients treated with a removable appliance or an overlay system, remember to remove the overlay/removable appliance when eating.

On the day of starting orthodontic treatment, you receive recommendations on how to use the orthodontic appliance, as well as full information on what to do in the event of any failures. We also provide you with orthodontic wax, thanks to which you can protect irritating places in the braces until they heal or until an orthodontic visit. In case of any problems with the device, please contact us, the staff will provide the necessary information on what to do, or we will arrange a quicker emergency visit.

The frequency of follow-up visits depends on the type of orthodontic appliance used. During the consultation, when you find out what type of braces would be recommended for your malocclusion, we also discuss the frequency of follow-up visits for a given treatment. Typically, check-ups with fixed braces take place approximately every 1-2 months. In the case of removable braces, we usually meet about every 8 weeks.

To meet the growing aesthetic expectations of patients, we offer treatment with an overlay system. This is a form of orthodontic treatment intended for both children and adults using transparent overlays on teeth that are replaced every 7-10 days. Thanks to this, the treatment process is almost invisible. An alternative to overlay treatment are fixed orthodontic braces with ceramic or crystal locks, which are much less visible than traditional fixed braces.
